Secondary Aspects of Hybridoma Reactor
Control - Accompanying Metabolites Response


Abstract:

Monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) produced by hybridoma cells have an expanding market in many in vivo and in vitro domains. There is a number of complications in growing hybridoma cells, which are very sensitive to environmental changes. The metabolism of glucose and glutamine leads to the accumulation of lactic acid and ammonia, both inhibiting cell growth and product formation. In the present study the process of optimal control of MABs production using hybridoma cells is investigated from the point of view of the accompanying metabolites production. Two processes, a fed batch and a continuous one, were previously modelled and optimized, searching for maximum antibody production. In the present study, the evolution of the by-products is presented, when the aforementioned systems are exposed to the computed optimal profiles.
