Electrochemical Detection of Sulphur-Containing Organic Compounds at a PbO2 Electrode in Acid Media

Abstract:

The determination of sulphur-containing organic compounds (e.g., cysteine, thiourea), using the amperometric detection with PbO2 electrode in acidic media (0.1 M H2SO4) was reported. The calibration plot for cysteine detection was determined for two concentration ranges: in the range 1-4 mM, by chronoamperometry-batch injection analysis (CA-BIA) and in the range 2-8 mM, using linear sweep voltammetry (LSV). For thiourea detection the calibration plot was determined for concentration range of 1-5 mM, using CA-BIA technique. Under the studied conditions, PbO2 electrode presented a good stability and reproducibility. This electrode exhibited a higher sensitivity for thiourea than for cysteine.
