The corrosion behaviour of four different preparations of pulsed laser deposition (PLD) CeO2 coatings on 945A substrates in static 3.5% NaCl was investigated using linear polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Four different nominal thicknesses were considered. The EIS proved this technique to be very suitable for the investigation of the electrochemical behavior, which is characterized by the dissolution characteristics of the coated materials. Because the coatings are porous, ionic paths between the electrolytic medium and the base substrate can eventually be produced, resulting in the corrosion of the coated material.
