The synthesis of the calcium aluminates: CA, CA2, has been done by thermal decomposition of some complex combinations, the calcium and aluminum glyoxylates. Calcium and aluminum glyoxylates have been obtained by heating at 90÷100°C, in open system, of the aqueous solution containing Al(NO3)3, Ca(NO3)2 and 1,2-ethanediol. The samples were annealed at 1000°C, resulting CA and CA2. The hydration of the calcium aluminates has been followed using X-Ray diffraction technique, the thermal and thermo gravimetrical analysis and IR spectrophotometry.
