THE RADIOACTIVE REDUCTION OF THE MINING WATERS COMING FROM THE URANIUM MINES
EUGEN TRAISTA, ARONEL MATEI, GEORGETA BARABAS
In uranium mining process, slurries and mining water results. The slurries content in uranium is less than 0.05% U3O8. The waste water content in uranium is also small, so that this water is not dangerous for the environment if it is correctly managed. The effluents contain various quantities of slurries and soluble salts like iron, manganese, magnesium, uranil, arsenic, vanadium, sulphates, nitrates and chlorides. In order to avoid radioactive contamination, uranium may be removed by ionic exchange, co-precipitation or bio-absorption.
