, TRANSITIONAL METALS SULPHONATED PTALOCYANINES, CATALYSTS FOR THE DEMERCAPTANIZATION OF GASOLINES
The paper presents the catalytic activity of Co, Cu, Ni, V, Fe and Mn sulphonated phtalocyanines compared to the catalyst Merox-UOP for the demercaptanization of some gasolines containing ethyl-mercaptan and tert-butyl-mercaptan, respectively. A catalytic activity similar to that of Merox-UOP catalyst was shown by the catalysts containing Co, Mn, Cu and V; those based on Ni and Fe are less active. For all tested catalysts, the conversions of tert-butyl-mercaptan are lower than the conversions of ethyl-mercaptan, while the variation order of their activities remains practically unchanged. The differences between the catalytic activities may be attributed to the different abilities of the transitional metal from the catalytic complex towards the modification of its oxidation state during the stage involving the activation of molecular oxygen, which realizes the oxidative demercaptanization of the petroleum cut.
