The Reaction of o, m, and p-Toluyl Chlorides with Ultrasonically and Thermally Activated Nitrobenzene
II. Reaction of m-toluyl Chloride with Nitrobenzene



Abstract:

In the second part of this series, the reaction of nitrobenzene with m-toluyl chloride, initially subjected to ultrasounds and then heated for 40h at 210şC, was described. The main reaction products were identified and a possible reaction mechanism was advanced. In this reaction, fewer products were detected compared to o-toluyl chloride. Due to the fact that the methyl group is in unfavorable position, m-toluyl chloride shown a lower reactivity. The reaction mechanism also involved an electron transfer from nitrobenzene to acid chloride. Keywords: electron transfer; sonochemical activation; nitrobenzene, m-toluyl chloride
