Vanadium Recovery from Coke Residues Using Chelating Ligand
Modified Sol-Gels as Novel Sorbents
I. The hydrometallurgical method and the sol gel preparation process

Abstract:

Recovery of vanadium from ash resulting from petroleum coke combustion is studied in a two-step method involving a hydrometallurgical ash treatment and a chelation step with sol gel modified ligands. The hydrometallurgical step consists of leaching and precipitation techniques. Sol gels containing iminodiacetic groups, imidazole, ethylenediaminetetracetic acid (EDTA) and polyethyleneimine (PEI) as ligands were prepared and used for the adsorption-desorption studies. The ability of these ligands to bind vanadium complexes was studied in a batch equilibrium procedure, using atomic absorption spectroscopy for analysis.
