Original Extracts from Plants Used In Dermato-cosmetics
with Photo-protective Action II. Determination of Stability to UV Radiations


Abstract:

Organic compounds are exposed to thermo- and photo-degradation in time, so the selection of proper protection is absolutely necessary. Therefore, the cosmeceuticals which contain a large number of compounds with variable unsaturated degree and functional groups with some sensitivity to UV irradiation, are protected by different organic and inorganic substances (mainly TiO2). In the paper, some cosmeceuticals based on TiO2 and nanostructures with photo-protective and antioxidant effects are characterized in thermo- and photo-oxidative conditions by the evaluation of changes in antioxidant activity, SPF factor, colour characteristics and temperature stability. The structural stability of the studied products and the absence of oxidative compounds formation have been rendered evident by IR and UV-VIS spectroscopy.
