Influence of Technological Parametres on the Liquid-Solid Mass-Transfer
at Inert Gas Injection Into Metallic Melts


Abstract:

This work presents a study on the solid-liquid mass transfer in gas stirred systems (e.g. inert gas injection into metallic melts). The solid-liquid mass transfer coefficients (km) and their dependencies on technological parameters for different injection systems were determined. Because of the difficulties for the direct study under industrial conditions of mass transfer, this investigation was run by physical and mathematical modelling, applying a low temperature model. This model simulates a functional metallurgical treatment ladle. The solid-liquid mass transfer was evaluated by four benzoic acid cylinders immersed in liquid phase, which was stirred by gas bubbles from three different injection systems. The cylinders occupied proper positions allowing the mass transfer study on the critical zones formed after the gas injection. By processing the experimental data on can notice the fact that the mass transfer strongly depends on the gas flow rate, injection pressure, injection system type and the place of the monitoring.
