Qualitative Analysis of Chrisine in Foliar Buds
Used in Fitotherapy, Using TLC and HPLC-MS


Abstract:

Chrisine is a natural compound synthesised in plants and evidenced especially in foliar buds and other vegetal products, but in significant quantities in beekeeping ones. The aim of this study was to observe the presence of this compound in 13 types of foliar buds used in phytotherapy, by two different analytical methods: thin layer chromatography (TLC) and by HPLC/MS. The results of the study show that, by TLC the chrisine presence in 4 samples was observed from the total number of the analysed samples. Anyway, the HPLC/MS method, because of its selectivity and specificity above the TLC indicates that just one extract contains chrisine, the extract from foliar buds of black poplar. This aspect suggests that the positive results concerning the chrisine presence in the other samples obtained by TLC are positive due to an interference of the compounds, possible analogical structure with the chrisine and having, in consequence, the same Rf and fluorescence after the developation process.
