, Electrochemical Behaviour
of an Implant, Thermal Treated Titanium Base Alloy


Abstract:

In this paper, the electrochemical behaviour of the implant, thermally treated Ti-6Al-4V ELI alloy in Ringer solution is studied; five thermal and plastic deformation treatments were applied. The behaviour of the thermally treated alloys were studied in comparison with untreated Ti-6Al-4V ELI alloy and base metal, titanium. It resulted that both titanium and those six alloys present self-passivation with a large passive potential range and very low passive current densities; most electrochemical parameters of the Ti-6Al-4V alloys are better than those of titanium; the corrosion potential presents nobler values than those of the base metal. This behaviour shows that the thermal and plastic deformation treatments favorably influenced the corrosion resistance of the alloys. Both titanium and those six alloys are resistant in Ringer solution. Keywords: electrochemical behaviour, implant, Ringer solution, trated alloy
