Preliminary Study on Combustion Characteristics of HHO Gas

Abstract:

One of the classical methods used to investigate the combustion characteristics of a gaseous fuel is the constant volume combustion. If this method is associated with an optical investigation technique, i.e. the Schlieren technique, the combustion process may be analyzed in detail. This study presents the preliminary results concerning the combustion characteristics of the HHO gas. This gas is obtained from a special type of dynamic alkaline water electrolysis, and contains H2, O2, H2O, OH, and H2O2. The experimental investigation was carried out on a test bed provided with a cylindrical closed vessel, offering inside optical access by two opposite quartz windows. There is also presented a comparison between the stoichiometric H2/O2 gas mixture combustion and the HHO gas combustion from different experimental aspects.
