Stopped-Flow” Installation for the Study
of Rapid Reactions Kinetics in Solutions. Reaction between Cu2+ and S2O3

Abstract:

A stopped flow apparatus has been achieved, with the purpose of studying the kinetics of the reaction of Cu(II) with thiosulphate ions. The apparatus includes the supply tanks, the system for thermostating, dosing and introduction of the reactants, the measure cell with a thoroidal mixing chamber, the monochromatic lightning source,the detection and registering system, the oscilloscope. The reactants have been introduced in the mixing chamber from two syringes, whose pistons have been manually pushed with a lever. The reaction’s very short period of time (15-150 ms, depending on the concentration of the reactants) has imposed small volumes of the mixing chamber (0.017 cm3) and of the measure cell (0.02 cm3). Kinetic recordings have been found to correspond well with the ones achieved with a classic Sutin apparatus, for concentrations of the reactants between 0.05 and 0.001M.
