The Study of Fatty Acids from Different Sea Buckthorn and Wheat Germ Extracts


Abstract:

The sea buckthorn fruits are rich in vitamins C and E, fatty acids and sterols, carotenoids, polyphenols, flavonoids having antioxidant action and being very important for health. The oil obtained from wheat germs is rich in vitamins E, fatty acids and has antioxidant action. There were studied the sea buckthorn extracts obtained by cold pressing and by extraction with supercritical fluids respectively the wheat germ extracts obtained by Soxhlet extraction and by extraction with supercritical fluids. There were studied the content of these extracts in fatty acids, especially the w3 and w6 fatty acids using gas-chromatography (GC) with flame ionization detector (FID). The extracts obtained by extraction with supercritical fluids has a better w6/w3 ratio. Key words: w3 and w6 fatty acids; HPLC - FD; GC - FID; Sea buckthorn; Wheat germ
