The Importance of Deoxyribonucleic Acid Adducts
in Biochemistry and Xenobiochemistry

Abstract:

Adducts of DNA macromolecules with small molecules are of interest for biochemistry - when biometallic metabolites participate in the interactions and, for xenobiochemistry - when chemical xenobiotics are involved in the interactions. Thus the biogenesis of adducts are important not only for the metabolizing of nutrients but also in the biotransformation of xenobiotics (of nutritional, pharmaceutical and toxicological - pesticide, interest).Aspects concerning the specific structure of the main adducts found in natural conditions (e.g. biometals) or, in case of some xenobiotics (metals with toxicogene potential, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, acridines, nitrosamines a.o.) are briefly presented below. In case of xenobiotics there are remarked the structural aspects as well as the pathobiochemical and pharmacological implications, too, related with the specific of the studied compounds. Biogenesis of adducts of DNA macromolecule may explain the disturbances appeared in various biochemical pathways. Key words: DNA-adducts in biochemistry and xenobiochemistry
