Uranium Desorbtion from Ionic Resins in Ultrasonic fields

Abstract:

The present paper investigates the dynamics of the uranium desorption from the anionic resin Purolite SGA-600U/3472 under the presence of an aqueous solution containing 100 g/L sodium chloride and 10 g/l sodium carbonate. The uranium loaded resin was placed into a laboratory column (length = 12 cm, diameter = 1.5 cm), which was immersed into an ultrasonic bath (frequency = 35 kHz, power = 480 W).The tests concerning granulation stability, mechanical resistance and uranium uptake capacity, after the repeated action of the ultrasound field, underlined the physical-chemical stability of the PuroliteSGA-600U/3472 resin. The ultrasound field industrial utilization in the field of uranium desorption will have as economical consequences the desorption time decreasing and the desorption reagent volume diminution, which will conduct to the increasing with 16% of the uranium content in the effluent and implicitly to the reagents afferent costs savings of 50%.
