Researches Regarding the Vitrification of a Galvanic Waste

Abstract:

The vitrification represents one of the modern methods of treating toxic or radioactive wastes, by incorporating them into glass at high temperatures. The melting of raw materials (glass waste, sodium carbonate and the galvanic waste) was done in an electric oven at 1450°C for 3 hours. The obtained samples were annealed at 500-550°C. Some physical properties such as density, the linear thermal dilatation coefficient, the vitreous transition temperature Tg, the dilatometric melting temperature, Td, were compared to those of some domestic glasses that exist in the production of the glass factory STAR GLASS S.A. TARGU-JIU, Gorj district. The experimental determinations proved that glass is very easy to be processed and may be used in industry. Keywords: galvanic waste, vitrification
