Cu(II) Separation from Aqueous Solutions by Ionic Flotation with 2-Hydroxy-5- Nonyl Benzaldoxime Collector

Abstract:

Ion flotation is a separation method for removing and recovering metal ions from diluted aqueous solutions. In this process, a collector is used to transport non-surface active colligend ions of the opposite charge from a bulk solution to the solution - gas interface. This paper presents Cu(II) separation from diluted aqueous solutions by ion flotation (DAF technique), using 2-hydroxy-5-nonyl-benzaldoxime (BAO) as collector. The objective of this work is to present 2-hydroxy-5-nonyl-benzaldoxime as a versatile collector reagent for Cu(II) separation, via flotation of Cu(II) - BAO green insoluble chelate complex. The influence of main factors (solution pH, colligend concentration, molar ratio CBAO : CCu(II), air flow, flotation time so on) on the separation efficiency (%R) was studied and the optimal parameters were established. The sublate isolated at optimum parameters, has been investigated by physico - chemical methods: FT-IR spectrometry, thermal analysis, reflectance electronic spectra and elemental chemical analysis, for interaction of collector - colligend. Under the studied conditions, 2-hydroxy-5-nonyl-benzaldoxime was found to be effective collector for copper removal with almost 100% separation yield achived.
