Anodic Stripping Voltammetric Determination of Copper(II) with Salicylaldoxime Carbon Paste Electrodes

Abstract:

A method for the determination of copper with a chemically modified carbon paste electrode (CMCPE) based on salycilaldoxime is described. Copper (II) was selectively accumulated, in open circuit, on a CMCPE incorporating salicylaldoxime, followed by stripping voltammetric measurements. After the reduction of the complex at - 0.4 V (vs Ag/AgCl), the anodic stripping peak was obtained in cyclic voltammetry by scanning the potential between -0.4 and 0.5 V in a diluted nitric acid solution. Factors affecting the accumulation, reduction and stripping steps were investigated and a procedure was developed. For 3 minutes of accumulation and 100 sec of reduction time, a detection limit of 0.1 ppm and a linearity range between 0.1-10 ppm were obtained with RSD = 8.5%. The developed method was applied to copper determination in wine and wastewater. The results were in good agreement with atomic absorption spectrometry.
