Studies Concerning the Behaviour of Hexagonal Pyrrhothine During the Development in Acid Environment

Abstract:

The dissolution of pyrrhotine was investigated in pechloric medium at 60 degrees C temperature. Two distinct stages of pyrrhothine dissolution have been identified. Non-oxidative stage (approx. 0-2000s) is well described as a rapid release period of ferrous iron from pyrrhothine matrix, and no release of ferric iron in solution. The oxidative stage is characterized by the formation of new FeS phase (Fe2S3) and ferric iron release into solution. Keywords: pyrrhothine, non-oxidative dissolution, Fe(III), H2S formation.
