Evaluation Study of the Inclusion Complexes of Some Oxicams
with 2-hydroxypropyl-b-cyclodextrin

Abstract:

Piroxicam (P), meloxicam (M) and tenoxicam (T) belong to the class of anti-inflammatory (AI) thiazines, and are characterized by low solubility in water. To increase the water solubility, inclusion complexes of piroxicam, meloxicam or tenoxicam with 2-hydroxypropyl-b-cyclodextrin (2HP-b-CD) were obtained. In order to obtain the inclusion complexes as particles of nanometric dimensions, the kneading method was used for. The obtained inclusion complexes were characterized by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), for the evaluation of the crystals morphology and their approximate size, and by thermal analysis using Thermogravimetry (TG) and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). The results confirmed the inclusion of piroxicam, meloxicam and tenoxicam in the cyclodextrin cavity. Keywords: piroxicam, meloxicam, tenoxicam, inclusion complexes, 2-hydroxypropyl-b-cyclodextrin
