Partition of Indole-3-acetic Acid in Biphasic Systems

Abstract:

In the present paper the partition of indole-3-acetic acid (HA) in biphasic system, namely indole-3-acetic acid aqueous solution - organic solvent, was studied. Several organic solvents such as: chlorinated derivatives (dichloromethane, chloroform), aromatic hydrocarbons (benzene, toluene) were used. The partition process was assessed by determining characteristic parameters of the process such as: distribution coefficient (KD), partition coefficient (P), degree of dimerization (D) and extraction degree (E%). The obtained experimental data were correlated with the properties of the studied solvents (dielectric constant, dipole moment). The presence of an extractant in the organic phase, such as tributyl phosphate, increases significantly the extraction degree of the indole-3-acetic acid.
