Saving Energy by “Unorthodox” Placement of Heat Pumps
II. Supplementary Criteria for Heat Pumps Placement

Abstract:

For a placement of heat pumps not across the pinch, one of the following conditions should be fulfilled: a) the pump is inserted on a process stage which makes use of both kinds of utilities (hot and cold); b1) for the placement above the pinch, the heat should be extracted from streams which will be evacuated from the installation; b1) for the placement below the pinch, one should find an external beneficiary for the heat extracted by the pump. The operating parameters, the limits and the efficiency of the heat pumps can be easily deduced by means of the general composite curves.
