Adsorption of Alkyl Polyglucosides Non-Ionic Surfactant
on Cotton

Abstract:

The study of adsorption of non-ionic surfactant on cotton in aqueous solutions and in the presence of dyes is necessary to explain the mechanism of staining and to establish the washing conditions. The non-ionic alkyl polyglucosides were used as surfactants and methylene blue as dye. The alkyl polyglucosides (APG) obtained from vegetal source have a soft action on natural fibres and methylene blue and is currently used to measure specific surface area of cotton fibres and as a bacteriologic stain and anti-infective agent. The type of adsorption isotherm equation and the mechanism of interaction between surfactant, dye and cotton were determined.
