Conferences of Contemporary Chemistry. Edition 7 - 2013 The seventh edition of the National Symposium with international participation CONFERENCES OF CONTEMPORARY CHEMISTRY On 14th of June 2013 it was held the VII edition of the Symposium Conferences of Contemporary Chemistry organized by the Biblioteca Chmiei and Syscom 18 SRL, in association with the Romanian Academy and the Society of Chemistry in Romania. This symposium has a tradition of 14 years. The Chemistry Library and Syscom 18 SRL annually award the best articles in two magazines published by the Chemistry Library - Revista de Chimie and Materiale Plastice, the Symposium also including the Awards Ceremony. Professor Virgil Percec - Pennsylvania University, Philadelphia, SUA - sustained the conference A Material Genome Approach to Complex Systems. Professor Virgil Percec is a specialist in organic, supramolecular, macromolecular chemistry, liquid crystals, and nanoscience. Over time, the merits of professor Percec were recognized, and he was named Honorary Foreign Member to the Romanian Academy (1993); also he was awarded with Humboldt Award (1997), NSF Research Award for Creativity in Research (1990, 1995, 2000), PTN Polymer Award from the Netherlands (2002), the ACS Award in Polymer Chemistry (2004), the International Award of the Society of Polymer Science, Japan (2007), as well with the Staudinger medal from ETH (2005), the H.F. Mark Medal from the Austrian Institute for Science and Technology, Vienna (2008) and Doctor Honoris Causa title from Polytechnic University, Iasi (2007) and University of Athens, Greece (2007). This year, we celebrate 50 years of magazine Materiale Plastice. The symposium was led by the Chairman of the editorial board of Journal of Chemistry, Dr. Peter Philip, director of the Center of Organic Chemistry 'Costin D. Nenitescu' of the Romanian Academy. This year as well Syscom 18, the main shareholder of the Chemistry Library, was the unique sponsor of the event, and that allowed the organizers to invite great personalities in the field of the Chemistry and also to carry the last seven editions of the event within the excellent conditions provided by the 'Diplomate' Ballroom of the Athénée Palace Hilton.
